Removal

•
Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
•
To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
•
Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.
•
Turn the crankshaft pulley so that the No.1 piston is at top dead center.
•
Engine removal is required for this procedure.
In case of removing the high pressure fuel pump, high pressure fuel pipe, delivery pipe, and injector, there may be injury caused by leakage of the high pressure fuel. So don’t do any repair work right after engine stops.
1.
Remove the engine assembly from the vehicle.
2.
Disconnect the transaxle assembly from engine assembly.
3.
Install the engine to an engine stand for disassembly.
4.
Remove the intake manifold.
5.
Remove the exhaust manifold.
6.
Remove the timing chain.
7.
Remove the cylinder head assembly.
8.
Remove the drive plate and the adapter plate.
9.
Remove the balance shaft & oil pump assembly.
10.
Remove the A/C compressor.
11.
Remove the alternator.
12.
Remove the water pump assembly.
13.
Remove the tensioner assembly integrated bracket (A).

14.
Remove the oil level gauge tube (A).

15.
Remove the knock sensor (A).

16.
Remove the oil pressure sensor (A).

17.
Remove the cover (B) and the CKPS (Crankshaft position sensor) (A).

18.
Remove the balance shaft module.
19.
Remove the ladder frame (A).


Installation

1.
Apply liquid gasket to the mating surface of cylinder block and ladder frame.
•
When assembling ladder frame, the liquid sealant Loctite 5900H, Threebond 1217H or equivalent should be applied ladder frame.
•
The part must be assembled within 5 minutes after sealant was applied.
•
Apply sealant to the inner threads of the bolt holes.

2.
Install ladder frame(A) with 10 bolts, in several passes, in sequence shown.

Tightening torque
Step 1 :
8.8 ~ 9.8 N.m (0.9 ~ 1.0 kgf.m, 6.5 ~ 7.2 lb-ft)
Step 2 :
17.7 ~ 20.6 N.m (1.8 ~ 2.1 kgf.m, 13.0 ~ 15.2 lb-ft)
Step 3 :
27.5 ~ 31.4 N.m (2.8 ~ 3.2 kgf.m, 20.3 ~ 23.1 lb-ft)

Tighten the bolts in order number as shown with the 3 steps.
(2)
Loosen the bolts as reverse tightening order.
(3)
Tighten the bolts in order number as shown with the 3 steps.

3.
Install the other parts in reverse order of removal.
